Channing Tatum Breaks Down While Paying Tribute to Stephen 'tWitch' Boss in Heartfelt Speech
Channing Tatum took a heartfelt moment to honor the memory of Stephen "tWitch" Boss during the Dance Hall of Fame ceremony held in Los Angeles on December 3.
The Magic Mike star grew emotional while sharing personal reflections about their friendship and the impact Stephen had on him.
"I told myself I wouldn’t cry," Channing admitted tearfully to the audience, according to People. "I’m here because tWitch brought so much laughter into my life. Calling it an honor to speak about him feels like an understatement."
The 45-year-old actor confessed he initially struggled to find the right words about Stephen, acknowledging that many present might have known the dancer more deeply.
Channing recalled their time working together on 2015’s Magic Mike XXL, highlighting Stephen’s passionate nature.
"He loved with such intensity," Channing said. "That’s what made him shine so brightly."
When discussing Stephen’s remarkable dance abilities, Channing expressed his amazement.
"I couldn’t comprehend how this large, strong man moved so gracefully," he explained. "And then he’d crack a joke, which just made me more frustrated because I couldn’t keep up. But then he’d smile, and you’d instantly fall for him — that was just tWitch."
Channing humorously admitted to having a "man crush" on Stephen, emphasizing how the dancer’s charm made everyone adore him.
"He inspired you to be better in any way you aspired," Channing said. "He accepted you fully, no matter who you were or where you were headed. He was always ready to support and be present."
The actor also shared a possible reason for their close connection.
"Maybe it’s because we’re both from Alabama," Channing mused. "I felt a special bond with him. Roll Tide, by the way — I’m sure he’s laughing at me right now."
"Knowing him was a privilege," Channing concluded. "Calling him my friend was an honor. I will see him again someday."
Remembering Stephen's Legacy
This tribute took place three years after Stephen’s suicide in December 2022 at the age of 40. Since his passing, his wife Allison Holker and their children — Weslie (17), Maddox (9), and Zaia (6) — have continued to celebrate his life and memory.
On what would have been his 43rd birthday, Allison posted on Instagram, "Happy heavenly birthday Stephen. We love you and still feel your love. We celebrated by doing some of your favorite things: Korean BBQ, comic book shopping, and cookies and cream."
She expressed gratitude for the support they have received from fans and friends.
Family Moments and Tributes
In October 2023, Allison shared a photo of daughter Weslie attending her high school homecoming dance. Earlier, in August, Allison posted her first dance video since Stephen’s passing, featuring herself and Weslie dancing to a remix of "My Heart Will Go On" from Titanic.
The family also appeared together at the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in May 2023.
Stephen’s social media posts before his death reveal the depth of his devotion to family. In November 2022, he posted, "Thankful for family. Thankful for health. Thankful for love. Thankful for life. Sending y’all so much love from our family to yours. #bossfamily #turkeyday." The family even dressed as the Addams Family for a festive celebration.
On Father’s Day 2022, Stephen shared a touching post about fatherhood, calling it "the greatest gift and duty ever," and expressing admiration for all fathers and father figures.
Throughout the years, Stephen was often seen celebrating milestones with his children, such as son Maddox’s sixth birthday in March 2022, where he reflected on how quickly his son was growing and the lessons they shared.
Cherished Memories
The family has frequently shared joyful moments, including coordinating holiday pajamas and dancing together, showcasing their close bond and love for one another.
In November 2019, while Allison was heavily pregnant with Zaia, she shared a video of herself dancing with Stephen, capturing a tender moment before their daughter’s birth.
The couple and their children also attended premieres of major Disney films such as Mulan, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and Ralph Breaks the Internet, celebrating both their family life and Stephen’s career.
