Fanning Sisters Collaborate for the First Time in Upcoming Film 'The Nightingale'

Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning are gearing up for an exciting milestone in their careers.

The renowned Uptown Girls actress alongside The Great star are elevating their sibling relationship by co-starring in a new film project.

“For the very first time, sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning will appear together in a movie,” announced Sony Pictures on July 22 through a collaborative Instagram post featuring the sisters. This marks their joint effort in bringing Kristin Hannah's international bestseller The Nightingale to life.

At ages 31 and 27 respectively, Dakota and Elle will also take on production roles through their company, Lewellen Pictures. They are partnering with Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon’s production firm, and The Cantillon Company. Notably, Reese Witherspoon selected this international bestseller for her Reese’s Book Club in 2023, highlighting its significant appeal.

The film is slated for a February 2027 release under TriStar Pictures.

While both sisters appeared in the 2001 film I Am Sam, their roles did not involve shared scenes, with Elle portraying a younger version of Dakota’s character Lucy. Consequently, The Nightingale will be their inaugural on-screen collaboration.

Reflecting on their long-standing professional relationship, Dakota shared with E! News last May, “Our relationship is very playful and devoid of competition. We have always supported each other without rivalry.”

She further added, “Although we share similarities, our distinct personalities complement each other, which is beneficial. We have diverse interests.”

Anticipation builds for their dynamic on the set of The Nightingale, promising to strengthen their bond even further.

“I’m incredibly grateful to have a sister,” Dakota expressed to E!. “Elle understands every facet of my life, providing a sense of peace that comes naturally from our deep connection.”

She concluded, “Our mutual understanding means we don’t have to explain everything to each other, which is truly comforting.”
