Julia Garner is set to channel the iconic pop star Madonna in an anticipated biographical film.

The acclaimed actress from Ozark recently confirmed her involvement in the project, indicating that the film is still in its preliminary development phases.

In a video shared with W Magazine on September 3, Julia stated, "I can't reveal much at this point, but it is definitely progressing."

While she remained tight-lipped about specific plot points, casting choices, or a release timeline, Garner demonstrated her deep appreciation for Madonna's music by highlighting several of her favorite tracks.

"I adore so many of her songs," Julia mentioned. "'Borderline' is undoubtedly my top pick, followed closely by 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'Burning Up.' I also have a special place in my heart for 'Confessions on a Dance Floor,' which I grew up listening to, along with classics like 'Vogue' and 'Ray of Light.'"

She emphasized her overall admiration for Madonna, particularly the emotional depth in songs like "Papa Don't Preach."

Preparation and Audition Process

Garner is not only starring in the film but also serves as a co-writer and executive producer. In a July episode of the Smartless podcast, she recounted the rigorous audition process required to secure the role.

“I wanted to prove I could embody Madonna, even though I wasn’t trained in dance initially. I had to learn and perform dance routines convincingly,” Julia explained. “When faced with doubts, I reminded myself, 'What would Madonna do?' and ultimately, I was able to assert my place in the project confidently.”

Madonna has also shared updates regarding her contributions to the film. In July 2024, she posted on Instagram, "I need a lot of bands to bring this vision to life... OKAY," accompanied by images of her drafting the screenplay, humorously noting it as part of her life story.
