Leonardo DiCaprio Shares His Approach to Balancing Privacy and Fame

Leonardo DiCaprio remains elusive to the public, choosing carefully when to engage with the spotlight.

The acclaimed actor acknowledges his celebrity but favors keeping his personal life shielded from public view whenever possible.

“Throughout my adult years, I’ve been trying to find the right balance,” DiCaprio shared with Time in an interview dated December 8. “My guiding principle is to only step into the public eye if I have something meaningful to contribute or present.”

He further explained, “Otherwise, I prefer to stay out of sight as much as I can.”

Recently celebrating his 51st birthday with girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, 27, and friends including Jimmy Fallon, the One Battle After Another star elaborated on how his low-profile attitude complements his career.

“I asked myself, ‘How can I maintain a long-lasting career?’” he said. “Since I love acting, I realized the best way to sustain it is by not constantly being in people’s faces.”

Leonardo's dedication to acting began early in life, fueled by his eagerness even as a child.

“I was the kid telling my parents, ‘Get me to auditions! Pick me up after school at 4!’” he recalled, explaining that his dislike for elementary school motivated his early career ambitions. “I thought, ‘This isn’t for me. I need to figure out what I want to do for work right away.’”

While he strongly guards his personal space, turning 50 has brought a new sense of clarity and motivation to both his private and professional spheres.

“After hitting 50, there’s a stronger urge to be straightforward and make the most of your time,” he told Esquire in August. “I see my mother as an example—she speaks her mind and doesn’t waste time pretending.”

The Titanic star added, “Being honest sometimes means risking conflict or endings in relationships, but it’s necessary. You realize you have more life behind you than ahead, so you can’t afford to waste time.”
