Ryan Reynolds Shares Amusing Details About His Son Olin's Movie Obsession
Ryan Reynolds has revealed that his youngest child, Olin, has developed an unexpected fondness for one of his less celebrated movies.
The Deadpool star admitted that the couple’s 2011 superhero film Green Lantern, which faced poor reviews and box office results, is actually Olin’s favorite movie, and he watches it daily.
“It’s funny to say, but my son insists on watching that film every single day,” Reynolds shared during a recent talk at The Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit. “I’ve had to come to terms with it enough to walk past the screen without thinking, ‘We could have done that differently.’”
Despite the film’s rocky reception, Reynolds sees it as a sign of his growth in the industry. “Back then, I was just eager to please—‘Yes sir, no sir, how high can I jump sir?’” he reflected.
He also appreciates using his professional ups and downs as valuable lessons for his children. “My kids mostly see me as a winner, getting pats on the back and selfies everywhere I go,” he explained. “So I make it a point to share my failures with them, because those are the foundation for everything else.”
Ryan has also joked about the challenges of parenting a son compared to his three daughters—James, 10, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6.
“Raising three girls is pretty straightforward,” he said on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “But the boy? He’s constantly breaking things. I feel like I’m in a friendly rivalry with him.”
The actor humorously added that if their first three children had all been boys, he and Blake “would never have gone for a fourth.”
“No chance,” he quipped. “I’d have gotten myself a punching vasectomy.”
Beyond the parenting anecdotes, Ryan and Blake have built a warm family life. Here’s a glimpse into their journey as parents of four.
Their relationship blossomed around the time of Green Lantern’s release, with rumors of a secret wedding circulating before they officially married in a private ceremony in South Carolina on September 9, 2012.
The couple has been seen sharing sweet moments at various high-profile events, including the Cannes Film Festival and the amfAR gala.
Blake announced her first pregnancy via her lifestyle brand Preserve, which she founded on the value of family. Their first daughter, James, was born in December 2014.
They welcomed their second daughter, Inez, in September 2016, followed by Betty in October 2019.
Blake supported Ryan at fan screenings and celebrated milestones such as Ryan receiving his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with their children in attendance.
The actress confirmed her pregnancy with their fourth child while attending the premiere of Detective Pikachu, and the couple welcomed baby boy Olin in early 2023.
Reflecting on their family, Ryan expressed in a CNBC interview, “We wouldn’t do this four times if we didn’t love it. Everyone’s thriving and doing wonderfully.”
