Sofía Vergara Begins Recovery from Second Knee Operation a Year After Initial Surgery

Sofía Vergara is making progress in her health journey.
One year following her announcement of a successful knee surgery, the acclaimed Modern Family actress has provided an update, revealing that she is currently recovering from a second operation.
Recent Updates
On July 25, Vergara posted a photo to Instagram wearing a blue hospital gown and wristband, smiling for a selfie in a doctor's office with a privacy curtain in the background. In another image, the 53-year-old showcased her leg, sporting a grey brace on her calf and a white bandage over her knee.
She captioned the photos with, "It's done. Round 2." The reason behind the surgeries was not disclosed.
Previous Medical History
This is not Vergara's first surgery. In April 2024, she shared that she had knee surgery and was being cared for by her then-boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman. Their relationship ended in January 2025 after over a year together.
During that time, she humorously noted on Instagram Stories, "If you ever need major knee surgery, make sure you have a handsome doctor who will stay with you that night! Love you."
Health Challenges Over the Years
Vergara has been transparent about her health struggles. In 2021, she spoke about her diagnosis with thyroid cancer at 28 years old.
She shared during a Stand Up To Cancer special, "When you're young and hear the word 'cancer,' your mind races to many places. I chose not to panic and instead educated myself, reading extensively about it."
Her diagnosis was fortunately not life-threatening. After thyroid removal surgery and radiation therapy, she was declared cancer-free.
Vergara reflected, "I was lucky to catch it early and have the support of my doctors and family. I learned that in crises, we are stronger together and that combating cancer requires a team effort."
