Eva Mendes Shares a Loving Easter Egg After Ryan Gosling Lands Ghost Rider

Eva Mendes is openly cheering on Ryan Gosling’s latest superhero move.

Following the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 that Gosling will take on Ghost Rider in a future Marvel movie, Mendes responded with a sentimental callback to The Place Beyond the Pines, the 2012 drama where the pair first crossed paths.

On July 26, Mendes reposted a fan-made clip from the film’s opening sequence, which shows a shirtless, tattooed Gosling as stunt rider Luke Glanton getting dressed before heading into a carnival and mounting his bike.

The fan edit overlaid the newly unveiled Ghost Rider emblem and included the caption, “from this intro only i thought ryan gosling can be a perfect casting for ghost rider role.”

Mendes, who has daughters Esmeralda, 11, and Amada, 10, with Gosling, signaled her approval with the simple message, “Love, Roxy.”

The name appears to be a reference to Roxanne Simpson, the character Mendes played in the 2007 Ghost Rider film opposite Nicolas Cage.

That means Mendes was part of a Ghost Rider movie years before Gosling, though he will be the first actor to bring the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige introduced Gosling during the Hall H presentation, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The actor, long imagined by fans for the role, has also said he wanted to play the supernatural antihero for years.

“Wow, is this really happening,” Gosling told the audience, dressed in a red jacket and black pants that matched the character’s fiery logo. “As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time. So, Kevin, Josh Horowitz, Hall H, thank you.”

While the film’s plot remains secret, the project will reunite Gosling with director Shawn Levy after their work together on Star Wars: Starfighter.

Mendes later amplified the fan edit again on her Instagram Stories, calling it “Ghost Rider in a parallel universe” and thanking the creator for highlighting “this beautiful parallel universe connection.”

Her post also fit into a long pattern of affectionate public comments the couple has made about one another over the years.

They first became romantically linked after starring together in The Place Beyond the Pines, and Gosling has repeatedly described life with Mendes and their daughters as deeply fulfilling. In interviews, he has credited her with helping him understand the family life he wanted, and he has praised her as his guide when it comes to parenting.

Mendes, meanwhile, has said that becoming a mother was something she never expected until Gosling came into her life. She has also explained that the family keeps much of their home life private by choice, even while occasionally sharing heartfelt glimpses of their bond.
