Focus Features Unveils First Trailer for Simon Stone's Drama Elsinore Starring Andrew Scott
Focus Features has unveiled the official trailer for Simon Stone's biographical drama "Elsinore," starring Andrew Scott. The film chronicles the final months of Scottish actor Ian Charleson, famous for his performance in "Chariots of Fire," who in 1989 fought severe complications from HIV to realize his lifelong ambition of playing Hamlet on stage at the National Theatre. Following an award-winning run at the Toronto International Film Festival, the historical feature is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 20.
Scott, widely recognized for his work in "Fleabag," Andrew Haigh's 2023 drama "All of Us Strangers," the solo stage adaptation "Vanya," the television series "Ripley," and his portrayal of Richard Rodgers in "Blue Moon," steps into the shoes of another performer confronting mortality through Shakespeare. During the Telluride Film Festival, Scott reflected on how often he has tackled the Danish prince in his own career, including once performing a three-hour-and-50-minute staging eight times weekly. To portray Charleson accurately, Scott had to dismantle his personal connection to the character and imagine delivering the iconic soliloquies while knowing only weeks or months remained before facing the undiscovered country from which no traveler returns.
Directed by Stone, the film features a high-profile ensemble cast that includes Olivia Colman, Billie Piper, Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, David Dawson, Matthew Beard, Joe Locke, Monica Dolan, Georgie Glen, Sadie Soverall, Adeel Akhtar, Dickie Beau, Kadiff Kirwan, Juliet Stevenson, and Peter Mullan. Focus Features will release "Elsinore" nationwide on Friday, November 20.
