Gigi Hadid Responds to Her Name Appearing in Jeffrey Epstein Documents
Gigi Hadid has finally spoken out regarding a troubling issue involving her name.
The renowned supermodel reacted to recently unveiled documents from the U.S. Department of Justice related to Jeffrey Epstein, in which she is referenced.
Within a December 2015 email thread included in the released files and obtained by E! News, an obscured party questioned Epstein about the modeling achievements of Gigi and her sister Bella Hadid, asking, “How did the Hadid sisters become models and earn so much money? I don’t get it…”
Epstein’s reply was, “You know,” followed by the other person’s comment, “The father paid the agency.” Epstein then responded, “No.” Later in the conversation, he added, “Because they follow directions, it’s that simple.”
After a fan remarked on Gigi’s Instagram post from March 29 that they unfollowed her because she hadn’t addressed the files, Hadid responded, saying the documents “made me sick to my stomach.”
“It’s awful to see someone who’s never met you speak about you in such a way, especially in this setting,” she wrote on March 30. “I didn’t respond earlier because I didn’t want to distract from the voices of actual victims; however, your comment made me realize that clarification is important.”
Gigi, who shares her 5-year-old daughter Khai with former partner Zayn Malik, emphasized that despite having a privileged upbringing, her parents, Mohammed and Yolanda Hadid, taught her the importance of dedication and hard work. She highlighted that since signing with a modeling agency in 2012, she has consistently worked hard.
“Being mentioned in those documents when I was around 20 or 21 years old is deeply unsettling,” she concluded. “I want to make it absolutely clear that I have never had any connection to that reprehensible individual.”
For context, Epstein, who had previously pleaded guilty to charges involving procuring a minor for prostitution, was arrested in July 2019 on serious sex trafficking allegations. He died by suicide in jail shortly thereafter.
