Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About Raising Her Twins With Little Support

Jennifer Lopez is celebrating a big moment in her family life as her twins, Emme and Max, finish high school and prepare for college.

On the June 15 episode of the SmartLess podcast, the singer and actress spoke candidly about what she called a difficult and unforgettable parenting experience. While reflecting on the years she spent raising the 18-year-olds with ex-husband Marc Anthony, Lopez said she was proud of everything she managed to do on her own.

“Now I can really look at my life, appreciate what it is and what I’ve built for myself, and feel truly happy,” she said. “Both of my kids got into all the colleges they wanted, both earned scholarships, and they’re going where they want to go.”

Lopez added that the achievement made her realize just how much she had carried alone. Speaking to hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, she said, “I thought, ‘You really did that all by yourself.’ That’s amazing. You had very little help, you know?”

Lopez and Anthony, whose full name is Marco Antonio Muñiz, were married for seven years before separating in 2011. Their divorce was finalized in 2014, and they agreed to share legal and physical custody of their twins.

Anthony, who already had children from previous relationships before marrying Lopez in 2004, has also continued expanding his family. He and his wife, Nadia Ferreira, welcomed their son Marco in 2023 and later announced they are expecting another baby.

In February, Anthony told E! News that he was enjoying fatherhood and felt grateful for the life he has built.

Lopez later moved on and married Ben Affleck, blending her family with his children from his marriage to Jennifer Garner. She described that transition as deeply emotional, while also saying it came with the joy of seeing dreams come true.

Even though Lopez and Anthony are no longer together, she has made it clear that they remain connected through their children and friendship. As she once said, they are “great friends” and “parents together.”
