Kim Kardashian Reveals the Close Call That Nearly Ruined Her Met Gala Look
Kim Kardashian nearly faced a last-minute fashion disaster before making her Met Gala entrance.
The reality star, who attended the May 4 event in a tangerine-toned hard-shell bodysuit paired with a matching leather skirt, said she briefly feared she had damaged her custom breastplate during the final fitting.
In footage shared by Vogue, Kardashian reacted after accidentally hitting the molded fiberglass piece, asking in alarm whether she had cracked or chipped it. She said she had collided with it very hard and worried the look might be ruined.
Once she was told everything was still intact, Kardashian admitted how relieved she felt, saying the outfit was so fragile that she would have had to skip the Met Gala if it had been broken.
Fortunately, the ensemble survived, and Kardashian went on to make a striking appearance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her look aligned with this year’s theme, Costume Art, and the dress code, Fashion is Art. The design drew inspiration from Allen Jones’ Maitresse works and his sculptural Body Armour series.
Kardashian also offered fans a glimpse into her Met Gala preparations through an Instagram video posted the following day. The clip showed moments from her day, including styling work by Chris Appleton and makeup by Mario Dedivanovic as she got ready for the red carpet.
Before heading out, she even treated herself to a pre-event snack: soft serve ice cream topped with sprinkles. She later shared a photo of the dessert on her Instagram Stories with the note, “Met prep.”
Her appearance was part of a star-packed night filled with bold interpretations of the “Fashion Is Art” theme, with many celebrities bringing dramatic and highly styled looks to the carpet.
