Shawn Mendes and Bruna Marquezine Publicly Display Affection During Los Angeles Shopping Trip
Shawn Mendes appears fully immersed in his blossoming relationship.
On January 7, the "Stitches" singer was seen beaming with joy as he and Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine shared intimate moments while shopping together in Los Angeles.
Photos from their casual outing showcase the couple dressed comfortably in jeans and sweaters, frequently wrapped in each other's arms. In one touching snapshot, Mendes, 27, holds Marquezine, 30, close from the front, resting his head against her neck with his eyes closed. Another image captures him embracing her from behind.
The "Mercy" vocalist and the "Blue Beetle" star—who had an on-again, off-again relationship with soccer icon Neymar between 2013 and 2018—first triggered dating rumors last month when they vacationed together in Brazil. This marks Mendes' first publicly acknowledged romance since last year's speculation linking him to "Big Brother UK" alum Charlie Travers.
Since ending his two-year romance with Camila Cabello in 2021, with a brief reunion in 2023, Mendes has kept his personal life largely under wraps. Nevertheless, he addressed questions about his sexuality during a November 2024 performance of his song "The Mountain," which explores similar themes.
"The truth is I missed out on a lot of typical teenage experiences and self-discovery at 15," Mendes shared during the concert. "There's been so much talk about my sexuality, and I find it a bit ridiculous because sexuality is wonderfully complex and can't be neatly categorized."
He admitted that discussions about such a private subject felt intrusive but expressed readiness to speak openly.
"The honest reality is that I'm figuring things out just like everyone else," he explained. "Sometimes I’m uncertain, other times I’m sure. It’s daunting because society has strong opinions on this."
He concluded, "I’m striving to be courageous and simply let myself be human and experience emotions. That’s all I want to say on the matter for now."
Looking back at Mendes’ previous relationship with Cabello sheds light on his romantic history.
Their story began musically in 2015 with the hit duet "I Know What You Did Last Summer." Four years later, their sultry "Señorita" music video, released in June, sparked speculation of a romance behind the scenes.
The following month, they were seen hand-in-hand in West Hollywood, with insiders confirming their couple status. Their closeness continued in San Francisco, culminating in a passionate kiss in Miami.
The duo celebrated Mendes’ 21st birthday together in August 2019, complete with public declarations of love from Cabello on social media.
At the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, their steamy live rendition of "Señorita" captivated audiences eager to see if they’d share a kiss on stage.
Despite brushing off breakup rumors later that year, the couple’s affection was evident as they kissed courtside during a basketball game.
During the pandemic, Mendes moved to Miami to live with Cabello and her family, describing the experience as unexpectedly beautiful.
In November 2020, the couple added a new member to their family with the adoption of a puppy named Tarzan.
Shawn has acknowledged occasional disagreements with Cabello but emphasized their open and honest communication.
He supported her at the "Cinderella" premiere in September and together they attended their first Met Gala in 2021.
The pair also celebrated Halloween in 2021, marking the occasion on social media.
Their romantic relationship officially ended on November 17, 2021, though they pledged to remain best friends.
They briefly rekindled their romance at Coachella in April 2023, sharing a kiss during the festival.
Following Coachella, Mendes and Cabello were seen together several times in early summer 2023, including at a Taylor Swift concert, before ultimately parting ways again in June.
