The Lowdown Season 2 Trailer Introduces Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin Alongside Ethan Hawke

Sterlin Harjo’s Oklahoma noir series “The Lowdown” is set to return for its second season, kicking off with a two-episode premiere on FX and Hulu on Wednesday, October 14 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. A newly released trailer offers a first glimpse into the next chapter of the critically acclaimed drama, which plunges protagonist Lee Raybon into another web of corruption and conspiracy across the Great Plains.

Ethan Hawke reprises his role as Tulsa’s dedicated “truthstorian,” navigating the treacherous underworld of Oklahoma while dealing with new figures entering his circle. The sophomore season expands the ensemble with high-profile additions: Tommy Lee Jones joins the cast as Raybon’s estranged father, while Betty Gilpin stars as a public defender who quickly becomes entangled in his orbit. Alongside these newcomers, several familiar faces from the debut installment are also slated to return.

Following its 2025 premiere, the series earned widespread praise for blending traditional noir tropes with grounded human drama, anchored by Hawke’s portrayal of an unconventional investigator who routinely takes physical and emotional beatings in pursuit of the truth. Reflecting on Hawke’s performance during an appearance on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit Podcast, creator Sterlin Harjo commended the actor’s willingness to embrace the grit of the genre, noting his ability to balance superstar appeal with indie authenticity and craft an approachable protagonist who genuinely represents ordinary people.
