The Watcher Season 2 to begin filming in New York this fall

The Watcher will begin filming its second season this fall in New York, four years after Netflix renewed the horror thriller. Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale are returning as homeowners Nora and Dean Brannock. Isabel Gravitt will reprise the role of their daughter, Ellie, and Margo Martindale will return as their neighbor Mo. Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are also back, with Brennan serving as showrunner. No plot details have been announced for the new season.

The first season followed the Brannock family after they moved into what they expected to be their suburban dream home, only to find their new life turning into a nightmare. Ominous letters from someone calling themself “The Watcher” were followed by the neighborhood’s sinister secrets coming to light.

Season 1 starred Watts and Cannavale as Nora and Dean, whose family was harassed by a mysterious stalker after moving into an idyllic suburban house. All seven episodes debuted together on Netflix in October 2022. The series topped the Nielsen streaming charts during its first week, logging nearly 2.4 billion minutes of viewing time.

Netflix renewed The Watcher a month after its debut, alongside the Monster anthology from executive producer Ryan Murphy. Netflix TV head Bela Bajaria said in a statement that audiences could not take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher, praising the storytelling teams led by Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster and Eric Newman on The Watcher. She credited Murphy’s distinctive voice with turning the two series into cultural sensations and said Netflix was pleased to continue stories in both universes.

The first-season cast also included Jennifer Coolidge, Richard Kind, Mia Farrow and Christopher McDonald. There is no word yet on whether any of them will return for Season 2.
