Trailer for Tarantino and Fincher's Cliff Booth film sets story in 1977, with Brad Pitt returning

Empire reports that the first trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures Of Cliff Booth has been released. The film follows Cliff Booth, the stuntman from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, in the 1970s. Until now the project had been kept under wraps, with few plot details and no footage. It is written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by David Fincher, and brings back Brad Pitt in the role that earned him an Oscar.

The story is set eight years after Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which puts it in 1977. In the trailer, Booth explains why he and Leonardo DiCaprio's Rick Dalton parted ways: "Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore." Cliff now works as a bartender, oversees mud-wrestling matches and works in a cinema. He has also become a Hollywood fixer who handles dubious business behind the scenes of the movie industry, a long way from the more carefree days of 1969. The film's new blurb says: "The fairytale is over".

A detailed synopsis has also been released. Cliff is curious when talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki) calls him on behalf of her client, TV megastar Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a man known for doing his own stunts. He is further entertained when he meets others in Charlie's world: Charlie's knowing wife Toni (Carla Gugino) and Roderick "Hot Rod" Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a pro football champion turned screen star. There are also the Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), mysterious gangsters causing mayhem across the city. According to the synopsis, what was once a fairytale is now a crime story, a cocktail of violence, ambition and desire that could only happen in LA.

Empire notes that Fincher has always excelled at dark thrillers and that Tarantino has long loved scuzzy, pulpy crime cinema, and hopes the two prove a good match. The film opens in IMAX on November 25, followed by a Netflix release on December 23.
