Walton Goggins joins Miami Vice '85 as an assassin henchman

Walton Goggins is set to play an assassin henchman in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice '85, a new big-screen take on the classic 1980s cop show. Deadline reports that Kosinski had been considering Goggins for the villainous role for some time. The actor can now join the production after concerns that his work on Fallout Season 3 might prevent him from taking the part.

Goggins has previously played villains including Boyd Crowder in Justified, Shane Vendrell in The Shield, Candyland overseer Billy Crash in Django Unchained and the bounty hunter known as the Ghoul in Fallout. The three-time Emmy-nominated actor joins a cast led by Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan. Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone and Danny Ramirez are also among the cast. John Leguizamo plays the cartel king who serves as the film’s main villain.

Dan Gilroy, brother of Tony Gilroy, wrote the screenplay. The film will explore Miami’s glamour and corruption in the 1980s, the decade in which the original series debuted. Shot for IMAX, the production is expected to begin in New York and Miami this November. Miami Vice '85 is scheduled for release on May 19, 2028.
