Thank you to the amazing students at @chapmanu @dodgecollege & @scott_feinberg for this amazing conversation. Appreciate U letting me open up a little and sharing some lessonsFor pretty much all my life, I held onto my traumatic & painful stuff and never talked about it. But it’s been wildly freeing and cathartic knowing I can explore it these days, in my work. Finally have a place to put it. I’ve tried one on one therapy over the years with some very credible psychology folks, but I just never found my groove. Maybe I’ll try it again down the road. But for now, my work is my #1 therapist. Just feels right 🥃. And what I’d give to have a talk with my 15 year old self, give him a hug, and tell him everything is gonna shake out ok ~ and also despite how hard you try, fanny packs will never be cool 😂🥃

The Smashing Machine transformation. An image from our early camera test. My absolute honor working with legendary Make Up Designer Kazu Hiro @kazustudios for this transformative journey to become Mark Kerr. Might be hard to tell, but there’s 23 prosthetics I’m wearing that required 3-4 hours of application every morning before stepping on set to film. You realize that the beautiful & emotional effect of Kazu’s prosthetics are in the subtleties and nuance. The things you can barely see on me but helped fuel my performance. Also keep in mind the fight scenes in the ring, were hard core and I’d get punched in the face - a lot - 🥴🥊😅 - between getting rocked and all the sweat - keeping these prosthetics “camera ready” was a huge challenge to contend with. Massive kudos to the make up and hair team, you are all first class masters 👏🏾👏🏾#thesmashingmachine written & directed by benny safdie
